Honoring A Wounded Warrior

Guardians,

I received the following response to the State of the Coast Guard address that is worth sharing in a separate post. Our Nation thanks the Leddy family and we honor the courage and sacrifice made by Marine LCPL David Leddy. We wish him all the best in future.

Dear Admiral Allen,
I was watching CSPAN this evening and came across your State of the Coast Guard address at the National Press Club in Washington. It hit me like a sledgehammer to see your face. My son, Marine LCPL David Leddy was at Bethesda after being severely wounded by an IED in Iraq in the fall of 2006. You visited David, my wife Debbie, and myself during his 2 month stay there. I remember you being very respectful and serene during your visit. Your demeanor was very welcome at that time, as it was the very worst time for my son. I just wanted to update you on Dave. He is 100% disabled through the VA/DOD. However, his wounds have healed to their fullest. He has foot drop on his left foot, an enlarged heart due to blast trauma, and a mangled left hand minus two fingers. Despite the daily pain ( he will not consume opiates) he is generally happy. He has a girlfriend and they are enrolled in the DiveHeart foundation program at Great Lakes. Dave was a NAUI certified diver before enlisting and decided to take advantage of the opportunity to get back into diving. I just wanted you to know that this Marine is doing well and is now re-entering Coast Guard domain, the water. Thanks for being there and being strong for us.
