Property Management

Guest Blog by RDML Keith Taylor, Assistant Commandant for Resources (CG-8):

The Coast Guard wide September 2009 Capitalized Personal Property Inventory was an eye opening evolution for me; I hope it was for all of you. Working together, we identified hundreds of assets that were not accounted for in our Oracle property records or the subsidiary operational and maintenance systems, like AOPS and ALMIS. This is a good thing. The goal of these inventories is to positively identify all the items that are missing from our records, to edit the information for existing records as necessary, and to remove property items that have been disposed of. All the hard work performed in the field and by the mission support community has moved us further down the path toward CFO compliance for personal property. But it's not over yet!

In the coming weeks I will release "Warning Order" and "Execution Order" ALCOASTs with detailed guidance, similar to the ones I issued before the September inventory. These ALCOASTs will contain all the information needed to successfully complete the inventory at your unit. If you would like to learn more now, please see this attached document (/PersonalPropertyDetails.pdf).

Let me reiterate: Property is Important! You demonstrated that sentiment with your efforts over the last five months. Together, we can truly become CFO compliant, and we will all "know what we need, 'cause we will all know what we have."
