Guardians,
This afternoon I spent some time at the Naval War College in Newport, RI. I first spoke to the combined student body regarding Coast Guard operations and relationship with the US Navy. Topics included piracy, theater security cooperation, Operation Iraqi Freedom, multilateral operations with foreign Coast Guards, the Arctic, and Coast Guard Modernization. Later I held an all hands session with our students (pictured here). This is an annual event I look forward to. I have seen over the past four years a greater appreciation of what we do and how we work with the Navy and Marine Corps to implement our Maritime Strategy for the 21st Century.
